Hi
Here is the Government of Canada's official link to helping immigrants look for jobs with up to date job postings, advice and information about different categories.
http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/lifeevents/job.shtml
or
http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/home-eng.do?lang=eng
Other sites are:
www.monster.ca
www.workopolis.com
http://ca.indeed.com/
Also, check city websites for example Misssissauga, Brampton, etc all have their own websites, and look for the careers link. Almost every big company in Canada, stores, banks etc have a career link on their website. Spend sometime and send your biodata around.
If you can, join board of trades if it makes sense, associations, business groups etc. Go for meetings, meet people and let others know you are new and looking for a job. The one thing I have learned in Canada in the six years I've been here is that word of mouth and who you know is a big step towards getting the kind of job you want. Connections is very key. Get to know people and let people get to know you.
Work on your skills like speaking clearly and listening. Learn basic computer skills like Excel, Word, etc as you will definitely be asked at interviews. Many jobs require basic computer knowledge. Many colleges here have courses to teach almost anything.
Get your driver's license. Many jobs require driving around and you having a license could stand between getting a job or not.
If you find any other sites or links, please let me know. All the best to you and please let others you know about my blog.
Thanks for reading!
